Career Education Library Services Team Members Published in the Journal of Library & Information Services in Distance Learning
Schaumburg, Ill., Jan. 8, 2013 – The Journal of Library & Information Services in Distance Learning published an article this month by Career Education Library Services Manager Michelle Powers and American InterContinental University Campus Director of Library Services Rhonda Contreras. Their article, “How to implement a new search system and make friends while doing it!” appears in the January 2013 edition of the publication.
The article focuses on what the team learned about initiating and implementing a change from a federated to a discovery search system, which ultimately impacts a variety of stakeholders, including the library staff, IT department and campus administrators.
“The article really addresses the importance of collaboration between library personnel and varying levels of the organization,” Powers said. “We also highlight what went well with the process, what important information was overlooked, and what new tools, techniques, and skills we acquired to assist with planning for future changes.”
The duo also presented the topic at a Distance Library Services Conference held in Memphis, Tenn. in April 2012. Their presentation received positive feedback from attendees whose schools were also in the process of considering a new system.
